These terms outline how Rowantree Editing works with clients and how services are agreed and paid for. They are intended to ensure clarity, fairness, and a productive working relationship.
Scope of work
All work is agreed in advance, including scope, word count, timescale, and fees. For editing and mentoring projects, a sample of the work may be requested before confirming the scope.
Any additional work requested outside the agreed scope will be discussed and costed separately.
Fees and payment
Unless otherwise agreed:
Editing, mentoring, indexing, and short-form writing projects are payable in advance of work commencing.
Year-long mentoring may be paid either in full upfront or by monthly instalments, payable at the start of each month.
Ongoing monthly work (such as article series or subcontracted editorial or writing work) is paid monthly in advance and may be ended by either party with one month’s notice.
Work begins once payment has been received.
Ghostwriting projects
Ghostwriting projects are bespoke and involve a higher level of collaboration, confidentiality, and responsibility.
For this reason:
- ghostwriting work is governed by a separate written agreement
- fees are typically paid in stages, aligned with agreed project phases
- payment is made in advance of each phase
Specific terms relating to confidentiality, intellectual property, revisions, and termination are agreed as part of that contract.
Revisions
The number of revisions included is agreed in advance. Additional revisions beyond the agreed scope may incur an additional fee.
Confidentiality
All client work is treated as confidential. Ghostwriting and sensitive projects are handled with particular care, and confidentiality terms are confirmed in writing where required.
Cancellation
If a project is cancelled after work has begun, fees already paid cover work completed and time reserved. Where possible, notice of cancellation is appreciated.
Intellectual property
Copyright in edited material remains with the author. For ghostwriting projects, intellectual property arrangements are set out in the separate ghostwriting agreement.
