Rowantree Editing offers high-quality editing, mentoring, and writing support for writers at all stages of their work. Whether you are seeking creative or developmental editing, copy-editing, long-term mentoring, or specialist ghostwriting, I work carefully and collaboratively to help clarify voice, strengthen structure, and bring projects to completion.
I’m Rowan Fortune, and I’ve worked in publishing and higher education for over twenty years. I hold a PhD in English and Creative Writing and lectured at Bangor University. I’ve undertaken freelance writing and editorial projects for newspapers and magazines, including The Tablet and Envoi, as well as for activist platforms and private clients.
My publishing experience includes extensive work with independent presses. I have worked with Cinnamon Press since 2006, and currently edit their hybrid fiction imprint. I have mentored fiction and non-fiction writers, both for Cinnamon Press and private clients. This work has seen a wide range of projects to completion, including manuscripts that have gone on to secure publishing contracts.
I am also a writer, working across reviews, blogs, short fiction, and non-fiction, with a particular interest in gothic and utopian traditions. This dual perspective — as both editor and writer — informs my approach to supporting others: attentive to craft, sensitive to voice, and grounded in the practical realities of writing over time.
Whatever stage your project is at, I aim to offer thoughtful, structured support that respects both the work and the writer.
I live in London and work with clients in the UK and internationally. At heart, I am a philosophical optimist, drawn to writing’s capacity to reveal the extraordinary within the ordinary.
